From attending a worker attraction info session to landing a job
Josh Aloba is ambitious and the Northern Territory has been the place to feed his ambition.
Initially, the 29-year-old arrived in Melbourne from the Philippines in 2023 on a student visa with a burning desire to climb the professional ladder.
Josh had already built several years of professional experience in legal technology and legal operations in the Philippines.
In Victoria, he continued building his technology career, juggling 3 roles as a Web Coordinator at The Good Guys Head Office, a Field Service Technician with TRT Solutions servicing client sites such as Coach and Kate Spade, and Event Technology Support with FutureLabs across Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.
Alongside building his career in Australia, Josh further strengthened his qualifications by completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in IT Management.
But he was always looking for better professional opportunities.
He researched places around the country that could potentially meet his need and kept coming back to the Northern Territory.
'I was looking for a place that was booming, that had the highest potential and where I could see a future,' he said.
Josh’s research led him to the Northern Territory Government’s Global Worker Attraction information session. He was so keen that he booked himself into 2 different sessions in Melbourne in June, just in case he couldn’t make one.
The Global Worker Attraction program is designed to connect skilled workers with prospective employers.
Josh met Damien Charles from the Northern Territory ICT Industry Association at the information session. He then sent Damien his CV and some information about himself, including that he’d recently completed his MBA.
That was in June 2026. By August 2026, he had landed a job with Territory Technology Solutions as a network engineer, a job with more security and a strong career path.
'Although there are a lot of opportunities in large metropolitan cities like Melbourne, there’s also heaps of competition around, so without connections, it's really hard to break in,' Josh said.
'When Territory Technology Solutions reached out to me around mid-July, I was shocked. I wasn’t prepared. I wasn’t expecting to be contacted so soon.
'I had already secured a job in Tasmania but when this job offer popped up, I thought I'm 100% going there!'
Josh is now settled into Darwin life and working towards permanent residency.
'The Global Worker Attraction program helped me see the Northern Territory as a place where I could genuinely build my career. And relocating here to Darwin has opened an exciting new chapter for me professionally and personally,' he said.
Josh tells all of his friends about his experience and is urging them to follow a similar path.
'I tell them life is short. Come here and try it out because you never know what opportunities will open up for you,' he said.
'I’m lucky to be here and I feel blessed.'
