Originally from Wales in the UK, Kayleigh Davies arrived in Darwin in May 2023 as part of her working holiday visa adventure. After living in Sydney, and needing to complete regional work, Kayleigh followed the sun and got to the Northern Territory just in time for the dry season.
'I instantly fell in love with Darwin,' Kayleigh says. 'It’s way more beautiful than people realise – the lifestyle, the sunsets, the sense of community.'
As the tale go; what started as a short-term stop has turned into a long-term stay. Moving to Darwin to be a receptionist at the MOM Darwin Backpackers, Kayleigh is now the Reception Manager, proof of the opportunities and support she’s found in the Northern Territory.
'I’ve grown so much personally and professionally. After years of backpacking, I’ve finally found a place to call home.'
Her pathway to sponsorship was smooth, thanks to support from her employer and a migration agent. Her subclass 482 visa was granted within a month, allowing her to continue building a home in the Northern Territory.
Kayleigh’s manager, MOM Darwin Backpackers’ owner Stratton Gilroy, says, 'Kayleigh’s a great example of what’s possible when you give people the chance to grow. The Northern Territory’s migration pathways – especially the 482 visa – help us find people who are keen to work, contribute and build something great in the Territory.'
The laid-back lifestyle, tropical climate and close-knit community makes Darwin a special place to work and live, according to Kayleigh.
'My advice to anyone thinking about making the move? Do it – you won’t regret it.
