Hudson Creek Power Station 2

In March 2020, Rimfire Group successfully achieved financial close of the 12MW capacity Hudson Creek Power Station 1 project (HCPS1), now constructed and exporting electricity onto the Darwin-Katherine electricity grid.

Rimfire Group is now at an advanced stage of developing Hudson Creek Power Station 2 (HCPS2) with a view to extending the benefits of reliable baseload power generation technologies that support the Northern Territory’s Darwin-Katherine electricity grid.

HCPS2 is a greenfield 12-25MW gas-fired power generation facility located adjacent to HCPS1 in Wishart, Northern Territory.

The HCPS2 design utilises high efficiency gas-fired reciprocating engine technology to efficiently and reliably export electricity onto the Darwin-Katherine electricity network operated by Power and Water Corporation, with 100% of the generation output sold through Rimfire Group’s retail operations.

The site is located on an industrial parcel of land in the industrial precinct of Wishart with excellent proximity to existing gas supply infrastructure and adjacent to the Hudson Creek Zone Substation owned and operated Power Water Corporation.

The size of the facility has been modelled to suit capacity at the local substation and to provide suitable volume of incremental utility-scale power generation output to the Darwin-Katherine electricity grid.

HCP2 will generate approximately 108-216 GWh of reliable and fully dispatchable power to the Northern Territory.

HCPS2 represents a capital investment in the order of $55-80M that will require a construction workforce for the 12-18 months construction phase and an operations workforce throughout the 15-year operational phase.

Direct economic benefits from HCPS2 will flow from the capital construction activity, operations and maintenance activities, and the competitive retail electricity provided to Northern Territory consumers through Rimfire Group’s retail electricity business.
