A career move that became a lifestyle change

When electrician Ciarán Cross moved from Perth to Darwin in 2010, he quickly realised the NT offered something different.

'I saw the opportunities in Darwin straight away,' he said.

Originally planning only a short stay, Ciarán started out as a trades assistant before building a successful career in the electrical industry.

Along the way, he found steady work, built strong friendships and created a life for himself in the NT.

Today, Ciarán is co-owner of MEC NT, a NT electrical contracting business employing more than 120 staff, including 18 apprentices, delivering major defence, infrastructure and construction projects across the Territory.

For Ciarán, the move to Darwin delivered more than career growth.

'I liked the work, met good people and built a life here,' he said.
