King Stingray headline act for Australia’s National Day at World Expo

The Northern Territory’s King Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship. The founding members grew up on the same street in Yirrkala in Northeast Arnhem Land and have been making music together for as long as they can remember. The band blend ancient Indigenous melodies with surf, indie and funk influences to create their unique sound.

They have captivated the nation hailed as “one of the most exciting acts in the country today” (NME). With two albums under their belt, King Stingray’s success includes winning awards along with national and international touring. Every one of their headline tours has sold out entirely, cementing their status as a prominent and exciting act in the Australian music scene.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade commissioned King Stingray as the headline act for Australia’s National Day at World Expo 2025 Osaka. Her Excellency the Hon Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia was in attendance and enjoyed their energetic performance at the National Day Hall along with Japanese dignitaries and invited guests. King Stingray then performed a live set at the Australia Pavilion forecourt stage as a finale for the National Day celebrations.

Australia’s vibrant spirit takes centre stage at the Australia Pavilion with a six-month program of dynamic Australian performances, art, culture and entertainment at World Expo 2025 Osaka. It is an important global platform for Australia’s music exports, just like King Stingray.
