Batchelor Solar Farm 2
In March 2020, Rimfire Group successfully achieved financial close of the 10MW Batchelor Solar Farm 1 project (BSF1), now constructed and exporting electricity onto the Darwin-Katherine electricity grid.
Rimfire Group is now at an advanced stage of developing Batchelor Solar Farm 2 (BSF2) with a view to extending the benefits of proven renewable energy generation technologies that support the Northern Territory’s Darwin-Katherine electricity grid.
BSF2 is a greenfield 7.8MW solar farm located adjacent to BSF1 in Batchelor, Northern Territory.
The project design utilises solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and single-axis tracking technology to efficiently and cleanly export electricity onto the Darwin-Katherine electricity network operated by Power and Water Corporation, with 100% of the generation output sold through Rimfire Group’s retail operations.
The site is located on a rural parcel of land outside of the township of Batchelor with excellent solar radiation of 5.9kWh/m2 and adjacent to the Batchelor Zone Substation owned and operated Power Water Corporation.
The size of the solar farm has been modelled to available capacity at the local substation and to provide suitable volume of incremental utility-scale renewable generation output to the Darwin-Katherine electricity grid.
BSF2 will generate approximately 17,440MWh in the first year of clean, renewable solar power to the Northern Territory.
BSF2 represents a capital investment in the order of $25M that will require a construction workforce for the 9 months construction phase and a remote workforce throughout the 25-year operational phase.
Direct economic benefits from BSF2 will flow from the capital construction activity, operations and maintenance activities, and the competitive retail electricity provided to Northern Territory consumers through Rimfire Group’s retail electricity business.
